Every Review Roll ends with a score out of 20\. Books, games, albums, films and anything else I get my hands on all get the same treatment, so here's the scale.

**1** *Critical fail*
**2** *Near Disaster*
**3-4** *Hanging on, just*
**5-6** *Meh*
**7-8** *Has its moments. Mostly elsewhere*
**9-10** *Fine. Perfectly average. Nobody's complaining*
**11-12** *Decent. Would roll again*
**13-14** *Properly good. Clear some shelf space*
**15-16** *Great. Tell your friends*
**17-18** *Brilliant. Tell strangers*
**19** *Almost there, stay on target*
**20** *The holy grail, the nirvana, the reason for living, the greatest thing to happen since the last greatest thing to happen*

A few ground rules:

- **A 10 is a shrug, not an insult.** It means perfectly average. Plenty of good things live there.
- **Scores are personal.** They reflect how much I enjoyed something, not a scientific measurement.
- **A 20 is very rare.** Don't expect to see one often.

Every review shows its score with the label, like "14/20: Properly good", so you don't need to check back here.
